The future of information technology will be strongly linked to quantum physics while many details are still open. This fuels experiments on quantum phenomena in semiconductor based nanoelectronics to foster our understanding of realistic quantum circuits on a fundamental level.
The lecture will impart the relevant concepts including a recapitulation of needed solid state physics. However, its focus will lie on the discussion of actual experiments aimed at the realization of semiconductor based quantum circuits. We will discuss topical experiments probing the coherent dynamics of single electrons and their spin states in semiconductor nanostructures, experiments aiming at the coherent coupling of distant quantum states, and experiments related to many body interaction in nanostructures.
